For comparison, konosuba season 3 didn't even happen yet, but konosuba has. The light novel contains the most details out of all three. Overlord doesn't fall under those pitfalls but still suffers from its character building at times.
I'm not going to lie.
Watched the anime, and after rewatching several. It heavily tones down the darker aspects of the characters' personalities, and even outright omits a lot of the really dark background. The undead king arc is the first major story arc in the overlord series. Light novel i've ever read, so there's definitely some sentimentality there (right after the king's avatar).
